A spokesperson with Agris Solar Cooperative says if the rate for power generated from small scale solar electricity drops — it could put several proposed projects in jeopardy.

The Ontario Power Authority is considering cutting the price to just under 59 cents per kilo-watt hour — down from 80. Jim Campbell says at that rate — the business is not viable. Campbell says the cooperative has 650 applications in but not approved, and has invested heavily in engineering and site plans, based on the higher rate. He says a lot of the cooperative’s members are angry the rate may be changing without notice. The Ontario Power Authority says the new rates are proposed and there will be a consultation period, but farm and industry groups are concerned the new rate has already been set.
