Eight veterans from the first landing at Dieppe in World War two are still living in this area. Some of them will be part of next month’s dedication ceremony in Dieppe Gardens in downtown Windsor. Jim McArthur was part of the Essex-Kent regiment that landed at the beach on August 19, 1942, and says circumstances beyond the control of the average soldier stacked the odds against them. 553 soldiers from this region fought in the battle but only 51 returned.
