More than 200 volunteers have helped reclaim materials from buildings being demolished for the Windsor-Essex Parkway. The We Pay It Forward property salvage project recycles those materials back into the community through charitable housing and improvement initiatives. So far — estimates show 1.5 tonnes of materials per building are being diverted from landfills. Habitat for Humanity and Essex County’s Horticultural Society are the leading charities involved in the salvage project. Habitat’s ReStore program did more than $130,000 in sales last month. More volunteers are required anyone interested should visit the We Pay It Forward website
