A memorial has been held at Windsor Police headquarters for Senior Constable John Atkinson today.
Atkinson was killed on the job 5 years ago while investigating a drug deal on the city’s east side.
John’s wife, Shelly Atkinson says the City of Windsor and Windsor Police Service have been so good to their family ever since it happened.
She says, “Every gesture, every kind word, and every smile means so much to us. Just never forget. That’s all I ask; just never forget.”
The family, and the Windsor Police Service laid wreaths in honour of John Atkinson.
He was 37-years-old when the incident happened, and was the first officer killed on-duty in the history of the Windsor Police Service.
18-year-old Nikkolas Brennan was the one found guilty of first-degree murder in Atkinson’s case, and was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.
