Asbestos At Grace Site

The Ministry of Labour has issued three work orders after testing found asbestos in various locations at the old Grace Hospital site.

Owner Grace Village Windsor Inc. has to stop all work until the asbestos has been removed properly and must provide a report to the ministry by Feb. 14. Windsor mayor Eddie Francis said it is another unfortunate delay.

“We don’t like waiting around,” he said. “Had it not been for the Ministry of Labour we would have had a decision by council and we would have been in there. Having said that, I think the ministry has done a service to this community by identifying that there are issues and ensuring that no one is going to go in there and disturb the site.”

Francis said council will hopefully be in a position to act on the issue next week. In the meantime, he wants to secure the perimeter immediately with more fencing.
