Budget Talks Winding Down

As Chatham-Kent Council heads into what’s believed to be the final day of budget deliberations it’s time for a review of possible service cuts.

With the tax hike sitting at 2.64%, council will have to decided if they truly want to get to a 0% increase and if they do, how to get there.

Budget Chair Art Stirling says no service should be deemed “safe” yet. “I think anything in the budget binder is still on the table. Any councillor at any time can bring forward any item,” says Stirling. “The list is in front of them, I think council will look at the entire list. There may only be a small number of items brought forward for discussion, and I’d be surprised if there was a large number.”

Council started the budget sessions looking at a tax increase of more than 7.5%
