Chatham native and current Milwaukee General Manager Doug Melvin is being inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
Melvin was a minor league pitcher from 1972 to ’78, before making the transition into the front office.
Melvin thinks the Canadian influence in Major League Baseball will continue to grow. “As General Manager I think there is no doubt…I think the reason you can see it’s grown so much is it’s part of the draft now.” Melvin adds, “There’s that many players… and I think there’s going to be continued growth of baseball in Canada.”
Also being inducted to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, Rusty Staub, pitcher Rheal Cormier and Team Canada’s gold winning squad from last year’s Pan Am games. The ceremony will be in St. Marys on June 23rd.
