Sidney Crosby scored in overtime to give Canada a 3-2 win over the United States for the men’s hockey gold medal. It was a record 14th gold medal for Canada. The host country also won seven silver and five bronze for 26 medals overall.
Joannie Rochette carried the flag into B-C Place for the closing ceremony. Vancouver passed the Olympic flag to Sochi, Russia, which will host the next Winter Games in 2014.

The Community Strategic Planning Committee will unveil it’s latest vision statement in council chambers tonight.
The group hopes to make the municipality the fastest growing sustainable community in Southwestern Ontario.
In its annual report, the Committee cites the World Town Planning Day youth workshop as one of its greatest achievements over the last year.

With the beginning of March comes local canvassers with the Kidney Foundation.
Kidney Foundation spokesperson, Erika Muscat, says March Drive is their biggest fundraiser.
This year the foundation is hoping to raise about 80-thousand dollars for financial support, research and awareness.

A doctor from the School of Labour Studies at McMaster University will give a lecture later today about the effects employment has on health.
Dr. Wayne Lewchuck believes the use of temporary work is eroding commitments between employers and employees.
The talk starts at 4pm at the Workers’ Action Centre in Windsor on Pelissier Street.

The Chatham Kinsmen Club will promote its proposal for a twin-pad arena and conference centre to Chatham-Kent Council on Monday. Past President Bob Christie says the club wants to remind council why it should chose the 52-acre site at Grand Ave East and Communications Road, for a new complex. Christie says the site has advantages over some of the other proposals, including part of the Wheels Inn and property on Park Ave West .Christie says using green energy to power some of the facility is part of the plan

The president of the Canadian Auto Workers is not fully convinced Ford’s announcement yesterday will lead to 750 “new” jobs. Ford will build the new Mustang engine at the Essex Engine Plant in Windsor. The $590 million investment will also establish a centre for research and innovation at the facility. Lewenza says with the plant’s modern technology, he’s not so sure 750 people will actually be called to work.

An arts group is hitting the streets of Windsor this weekend to mark what the city has to offer visually,both good and bad. “Broken City Lab” is holding a social mapping exercise this weekend. Organizer Justin Langlois says places like old factories will be marked with a big ribbon, as either Sites of Apology or Sites of Hope. The event goes Sunday.

The Erie St. Clair LHIN is putting together a new task force aimed at trying to improve primary care in Chatham-Kent, Essex and Lambton counties. More specifically it’ll be taking a closer look at communities overall health and how heavily they rely on ER’s and clinics. The group will be made up of several health care professionals like nurses, doctors, social workers and three community members. Applications for the community spots are now being accepted. You can find them on the LHIN’s website or by contacting its Chatham office. The deadline is March 19th.

A Windsor surgeon who performed mistaken mastectomies on two women, is now being investigated by The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Dr. Barbara Heartwell is also being investigated by Hotel-Dieu Hospital in Windsor. The college won’t go into details, but says it has the authority to conduct a broad investigation into a doctor’s practice.

A Windsor man has been arrested after a man was found in the trunk of a car at a Devonshire mall last week. Police in nearby LaSalle say a 33 year old man is facing charges of kidnapping, extortion, wearing a disguise and use of a stolen credit card. Last Friday, a man, who police say was abducted in LaSalle and taken to Windsor ,was found inside a vehicle with his wrists bound.
