It’s Sunday morning, just packing up my stuff, and organizing some equipment that comes home with the band. Last 2 nights in Saskatchewan were amazing…Saskatoon was Rock 102’s “Spring fling” (contest winners) so the house was packed with Rock savages eager to party and win prizes, and rock out~~ 2000 strong screaming back at you is ALWAYS a good thing! Last night we wrapped in Regina and we weren’t really expecting much of a turnout or response (from past experiences) but to our surprise it was very well attended, and we killed it! Great stuff! Off to the airport to sit in a shitty hotel for 2 days until I do online TV with a couple other drummers, then get off to Kingston and Ottawa for Wednesday, and Thursday. Shows are great, but I’m missing my family…Friday can’t come soon enough. All things are definitely good, and rocking forward!
Yours in Rock,
JB
West Coast was simply awesome….like I said earlier we have such a beautiful country! Band is excited about all the unexpected chart success, and our playing is very tight, and more “musical” with every show. I’m suffering a bit from the dry air syndrome where your hands begin to crack on the top of your developed calluses; very painful and very reminiscent of my past drumming exploits! We were given the opportunity to fly to Saskatchewan today of make the lazy drive…I’m driving, although the flights are cheap (thanks to Edwin’s friend) I really love absorbing the stunning vistas, and fresh air…If your a sushi fan, and you’re ever in Vancouver, you have to go to Tojo’s. This man is mythical in status (he actually created the California roll) and prepares the most amazing array of goodies, that will make any “foodest” fall to their knees and beg for more….Yum! Well gotta shower and get to the lobby for departure…Cheers all!
The rest of the country is following The ROCK’S support…We have 2 CRASH KARMA songs in the CANADIAN TOP 20 NATIONAL CHARTS! “Awake” still at #16, and “Fight” is shooting up the charts; this week at #19!
West Coast is amazing…Man we have a kick ass country!
Just finished the show in Red Deer Alberta… Great night! Slightly more tame than Edmonton which was much like the Calgary show~~Over the Top! We ended up recording tonights show on a 24 track with a 4 camera video shoot also; I’m not quite sure what we’ll use it for but it was offered, and we’ll pay for it if we use it…Good deal.
The video attachment is NOT an example of the recording, but a side stage view of what I do during the new single “Fight” live…I know, it sounds like poo, it’s more of just an idea of what happens…
Another 8-9 hour drive tomorrow with a 7am wake up call. I’m going to hit the pillow and try and get more than 5 hours sleep.
Good night…
Day 1 Winnipeg, Mb.- Silverado’s
I remember this place as The Diamond, a fun place to play always
since “back in the day”. Since it’s our first day with the band, Jack
the stage tech and I decided to load-in a couple hours early and get
the bands’ rental backline sorted. Thanks to the great guys at Long &
McQuade Edmonton everything was in shape and sounding good. Pretty
good turn out for a school night, including my favourite Winnipeg
thing: ROCK ‘N ROLL GIRLS! Edwin missed sound check so it took a
couple tunes to settle in, but a great 1st show! Crowd loved the
songs and I think it’s really cool the guys do one from each of their
respective former bands. Loooooong drive day to Cold Lake tomorrow
for the show on Saturday!
Day 2 & 3-Travel and Cold Lake, Ab
Wanted to shoot myself in the face after we drove Edmonton to
Winnipeg for the first show and then turning around and heading to
Cold Lake. Day started with a broken battery terminal so we were 2
hours late leaving the ‘Peg. North of Lloydminister we hit a large
flake freak snowstorm which was quite the wakeup call for us since we
were all brain dead after 12 hours in the van. Jack, our stage tech,
was driving and he kicked butt! We made it!
Day of show, Cold Lake, got the oil changed in the van and headed to
soundcheck with the guys. Everyone made it today (and ALMOST on time)
for check so we spent some time getting the stage sound right. Show
went great, band was really good. Audience was mostly younger but we
managed to catch their attention! Now a drive to Calgary with an
evening off on Sunday!
